2D and 3D Cell Culture and In Vivo
Trevigen’s products for physiologic cell culture recreate tissue microenvironments to elicit in vivo structure and function for cells in vitro. These tools for 2D and 3D cell culture are designed, developed, produced, qualified, and supported by our Cultrex® laboratory staff. Our products include alternatives to Matrigel® or Geltrex®, including several unique types of Basement Membrane Extract (BME) matrix containing different compositions of extracellular matrix (ECM) proteins. These matrices are qualified for specific applications, such as 3D, stem cell, spheroid, and organoid cultures. Other purified ECM proteins offered include Laminin I, Collagen I, Collagen IV, Vitronectin and Fibronectin, as well as the poly-amino acids Poly-D-Lysine, Poly-L-Lysine and Poly-L-Ornithine; there is also a selection of ECM-coated labware.  Cultrex® assay kits provide rapid and reproducible results for cell invasion, migration, proliferation and viability, as well as for angiogenesis, embryoid body formation, and spheroid formation, proliferation and invasion. Trevigen’s organoid culture products provide a selection of mouse and human organoid progenitor cells as well as organoid-qualified basement membrane matrices for intestinal, liver, colon, pancreatic and breast organoids. These Trevigen products are widely used in cancer research, regenerative medicine, stem cell research and genetic toxicology.

    Trevigen offers several different types of CultreCoat™ extracellular matrix-coated labware for easy, rapid and reproducible quantification of cell function. These products are available as standardized kits or individual reagents for cell invasion or vascular permeability. The 24 and 96 well plates are coated using standardized reagents under stringent environmental conditions. The protein coating efficiency must conform to stringent specifications, ensuring lot to lot consistency.

  • Cell Based Assays

    Trevigen offers several different types of standardized cell-based assay for rapid and reproducible quantification of cell behaviors. Both 2D and 3D assays have been developed for angiogenesis, vascular permeability, cell migration, cell invasion, cell proliferation and cell viability. For angiogenesis, in vitro assays are designed to measure tube formation and endothelial cell invasion; these kits have been validated using the commonly used HUVEC model. The Directed In Vivo Angiogenesis Assay (DIVAA™) quantifies angiogenesis in vivo. In vitro assays have also been developed for evaluating cell migration, cell invasion, spheroid proliferation and spheroid invasion. Trevigen cell-based assays are rapid, reliable and reproducible. Contract Services are also available for Cell Invasion/ Cell Migration/ Tube Formation Assays.

  • Xenografts

    Xenografts (1)

    Tumor xenografts are the most common models to study human cancer. The model require the implantation of tumor derived cells in animal hosts. In 1990, it was found that the co-injection of Basement Membrane Matrix or Cultrex BME with tumor cells improved tumor take and growth. Now Trevigen has developed, produced, and qualified Cultrex Basement Membrane Matrix BME Type 3, a type of BME that mimics the tumor microenvironment and that is specifically designed for use in in vivo studies.       The need for more complete and physiologically predictive cancer growth and invasion models has driven the development of the 3D Spheroid Assays. There is growing evidence that tumor cell aggregates or spheroids are more representative of tumors in vivo, and they exhibit several physiological traits including similar morphology, the formation of cell-cell bonds, decreased proliferation rates, increased cell survival, tumor dormancy, and a hypoxic core. Applying this model to 3D culture proliferation and invasion assays provides a more physiological approach for assessing tumor growth and invasion.
